Knitwear Design by Laura Nelkin I live in upstate New York, where the sunny season is short—leaving plenty of time to be indoors knitting.

Though I have a degree in apparel design from Cornell University, I took to knitting years ago and haven’t looked back. I’m currently enamored with lace and with incorporating beads into knitted jewelry, so many of my designs lean in this direction. But I also have an affinity for cowls and knitted hoods! I travel often to teach these techniques (and more!) at workshops around the country (and the

world by way of cruise ships!). I have a line of knitting kits, self-published patterns, and run mystery and regular Knit-A-Longs several times a year. My first book, “Knockout Knits,” was released with Random House in September 2014. When I’m not designing or knitting, I can be found gardening, whipping up yummy feasts with my family, or taking time to play.

Here's Brioche Boomerang!!! A boomerang shaped shawl with I-cord edges and brioche stitches throughout.

The other day I posted a reel teaching
the "rule" for boomerang shaping and a few of you asked what the final shape looks like! Here you go!

It's a 3-sided asymmetrical shawl with one long curved edge. Easy to make smaller as a bandana style scarf, or
longer as a voluminous shawl!

We are having a flash KAL for Brioche Boomerang Sept 3rd - 8th in my Ravelry and FB groups. The pattern is $3 through September 8th and I hope you will join us!

There is an extensive video tutorial on my YT channel and we'll be learning and knitting together! Queue it up to watch this weekend!

My girl was home for Craftcation 2026 last week (that's when you stay home and craft like crazy) and we got REALLY into playing with my bead stash.

I did a deep dive into making double brick stitch fish by Darcy Le Fleming | Beading Tutorials, patterns and membership and Bella got obsessed with making micro versions of Turbo Beads tutorials on YT. She even made possums look cute!

My new fish earrings hang perfectly with September’s Lola’s Choice kit, so you know I wore them during today's photoshoot.... 😜!

If I finish getting two patterns back to my tech editor I've told myself I'm allowed to make another pair... work/beading balance y'all!
