Legends Athletic Supply was founded as a true labor of love.

Larry White had been a lifelong entrepreneur, but Legends really took shape when he turned his business into his passion — sports, and more specifically, softball.

Around Denton and the greater DFW area, Larry is known for his deep roots in the game. His daughters still joke that growing up meant being recognized everywhere as “Larry White’s kid,” often followed by, “I played softball with him.” Whether it was playing slow pitch, coaching his daughters’ teams, umpiring after they left for college, or simply being a student of the game, Larry has spent decades immersed in softball.

That love for the sport shaped how Legends was built. Larry didn’t just serve coaches and organizations — he built real relationships. Over time, customers became friends. Even this past summer, a Women’s College World Series ruling had people he hadn’t spoken to in 20+ years calling him for his interpretation of the rule.

Larry’s philosophy was simple: do what’s best for the athlete and the team — even if it meant losing a sale. That honesty, knowledge, and care is what kept people coming back year after year.

While his family will tell you his retirement is long overdue, don’t be surprised if you still see Larry around town. And if you do — don’t be shy. Ask him about a play from 30 years ago, how interference is being called this season, or invite him to a high school game. He’ll be more than happy to talk softball.

Legends wouldn’t be what it is today without him — and his legacy lives on.
