Gather ’round, fiber people. Today’s TED Talk is about something near and dear to our hearts…
THE CHARLOTTE AREA YARN CRAWL! 🧶🚗💨
Seventeen years ago, a bunch of local yarn shops had what may have been a brilliant idea…
Or perhaps they had simply consumed too much coffee while surrounded by too much yarn.
Either way…
THE YARN CRAWL WAS BORN! 🎉
The idea was simple:
✨ Visit local yarn shops
✨ Discover new places
✨ Meet fellow fiber people
✨ Support small businesses
✨ Find fabulous yarn you absolutely did NOT know you needed
And 17 years later…
WE’RE STILL DOING IT.
Apparently, we have learned absolutely nothing about our yarn stashes. 😂
Over the years, the Crawl has grown to include maps, passports, prizes, special projects, exclusive yarns, mystery projects, shop events, new friendships—and enough fiber to knit an entire city a sweater.
Then came 2020.
The world shut down.
But yarn people?
Oh, honey. Yarn people adapt.
The Crawl went online, shops found new ways to connect, and the fiber community kept creating, sharing and supporting one another.
Because apparently, not even a global pandemic could stop someone from asking:
“So… when does the Yarn Crawl start?” 😂
And THAT is what makes it special.
Because the Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl isn’t JUST about the yarn.
Okay… it’s PARTLY about the yarn. 😏
It’s about the people.
The shop owners who pour their hearts into their businesses.
The makers who say, “I’m only looking,” and leave with three skeins and a brand-new project.
It’s about friends saying, “Let’s just stop at ONE more shop,” and suddenly you’ve driven 47 miles and need snacks.
It’s about discovering new shops, finding the PERFECT color, making friendships and supporting small businesses that genuinely LOVE fiber.
And remember:
Buying yarn for a project you haven’t chosen yet is called PLANNING.
Not hoarding. 😂
