You can see where her sewing machine fought her!
This is a ribbon waist cincher from around 1900. To close the boning channels at center back, the ribbon must be carefully folded so all raw edges are encased around the bones. Corsetieres sometimes call this “ribbon origami” because it’s a real pain. The wobbly stitch line underneath the bones tells the story of her machine trying to eat the stitch line as it passed beneath the needle.
