As America celebrates her 250th birthday, we are celebrating the 250+ years of us surviving. Everything America has thrown at us, WE SURVIVED. There’s nothing America can do to break us! For example:
* 1923 – Rosewood Massacre (Florida)
White mobs destroyed the Black town of Rosewood and killed numerous residents.
* 1934 – Claude Neal Lynching (Florida)
One of the most notorious public lynchings in U.S. history.
* 1946 – Moore’s Ford Lynching (Georgia)
Two Black couples were lynched by a mob; the crime remains unsolved.
* 1955 – Murder of Emmett Till (Mississippi)
The 14-year-old was abducted, tortured, and murdered; the case became a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement.
* 1963 – 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing (Alabama)
Members of the Ku Klux Klan bombed a Black church in Birmingham, killing four young girls.
* 1964 – Murder of James Chaney (Mississippi)
Chaney and two fellow civil rights workers were murdered by white supremacists.
* 2015 – Charleston Church Massacre (South Carolina)
White supremacist Dylann Roof murdered nine Black worshippers during Bible study at Emanuel AME Church.
* 2022 – Buffalo Supermarket Mass Shooting (New York)
A white supremacist targeted a predominantly Black neighborhood and killed 10 people at a grocery store.
* 2023 – Jacksonville Dollar General Shooting (Florida)
A gunman motivated by anti-Black hatred killed three Black shoppers in a racially motivated attack
And these are just to name a few. But despite all of this, we’re still here! And we ain’t going nowhere. They’ve been trying to destroy us for centuries, but who we are as BLACK people is stronger than any demon trying to destroy us!
