When I started DDMC 5 years ago, I hit the ground RUNNING.
I had the passion. I had the creativity. I had the knowledge (well, most of it anyway 😅 — and what I didn’t know, I LEARNED!). I had the dedication, I had the drive, and I clearly had the dogs. 🐶
I started selling through word of mouth, and 6 months later, I launched our website!
One year after that, I started doing pop-up events and our Monthly Rescue Merch Fundraisers.

Six months later, I was contacted by Fox 2 Detroit to do a segment on DDMC! 🥳🥳🥳
Then came 2025.
In March, I did a pop-up event at Detroit Shipping Company, and the rest is history after the opportunity of a lifetime was presented to me!
That same month, I was invited to pop up at Comerica Park for Bark in the Park!! The incredible opportunities just kept coming! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
APRIL 2025… I was in the hospital with a cervical spinal injury, with doctors waiting to perform emergency surgery to replace discs in my neck and fuse my spine. 🤯
And then in May 2025, I popped up at the Frankenmuth Dog Bowl. 😅😅
Because apparently I have never known when to sit my ass down. 😂
July 2025 was the Grand Opening of THE SHOP. 🥹🐶😭😍
Anddd the rest of the year is a complete blur…

ALL WITH A NECK INJURY.
Then came 2026, and it was filled with hope!
I was FINALLY having surgery. I was finally going to be able to work pain-free, to LIVE pain-free.
Surgery recovery was supposed to be 6–12 months, but NO WAY it would actually take that long, right?!
I’m tough. I conquered everything in pain last year. This recovery couldn’t possibly be THAT BAD, right?
WRONG. 😂😭
It’s been 9 MONTHS TODAY, and I still need one more recheck MRI before I’m “medically released for normal duties.” 😫
This is probably a good time to remind everyone that I MAKE EVERYTHING MYSELF.
I design.
I dye.
I print.
I press.
I engrave.
I laser.
I sew.
I embroider.
I AM THE ONE-WOMAN SHOW BEHIND THE SCENES, TOO.
Could someone else do it for me? Of course!
Could they do it LIKE me?
No. 🙃😂
Usually, not being able to have ONE normal day would set me back a week. (My small-business-owning friends know exactly how this feels!!)
And I’ve missed about 510 days, which means, according to small-business-owner math, I’M APPROXIMATELY 3,570 DAYS BEHIND IN MY LIFE. 🫠
I’ve spent this whole year running on a hamster wheel.
Trying to get caught up on everything. Trying to focus on my physical health. Trying to run a business. Trying to keep 5 dogs, 40-some fish, 200-some plants 🫣, feral cats AND a husband alive.
Trying not to let anyone down.
Trying to be everyTHING to everyONE.
And guys…
I gotta tell ya, IT AIN’T WORKING. 😂
So, here’s the deal.
This wasn’t a year filled with hope.
THIS WAS A TRANSITIONAL YEAR.
And that’s okay. 🫶
I’m going to stop beating myself up. I’m going to give myself some grace. And I’m going to make my health the priority so I can get back to doing all the things I love — the way I want to do them.
That being said:

UNTIL 2027.
WhatNot Lives are also on hold until 2027 — but I am SO excited for those!! 🤩
The website is under construction. There are over 2,000 ITEMS LISTED, and I currently can’t make approximately 1.99K of them. 😂 So PLEASE continue to bear with me on this!

And for the record, MY NECK FEELS FINE! Even after my truck was hit by ricocheting barrels on the freeway AND me going through a ridiculous battle with Covid last week. 😭😷
Oh, and then Goldie brought an opossum INTO THE HOUSE and killed it in the living room…
…but that’s a story for another time. 🤣🤣🤣
For now, I’m giving myself permission to slow down, heal, regroup, and stop measuring this year by all the things I couldn’t get done.
DDMC ISN’T GOING ANYWHERE.
We’re just making sure the woman behind it isn’t going anywhere either. 🫶🐾
