EleMental is a visual exploration of beauty standards, pressure and the mental resilience of women through the language of the elements. Each one holding a dual truth of oppression and resilience.
Fire represents the feeling of burning through society’s shifting expectations; to adapt, perform and endure. Yet within that heat lives strength, the power women forge by surviving and rising from what tries to consume them.
Water embodies the feeling of drowning beneath constant demands, responsibilities and emotional labor. At the same time, it reflects the ability to resurface renewed, softer yet stronger.
Earth represents weight and constraint of traditions, roles and limitations placed on women. Earth also symbolizes endurance, stability and the power to ground, re-center and stand firm.
Air captures invisible pressure unseen, yet suffocating. It mirrors the expectations that tighten around the mind, air is also the breath of release found when she reclaims her voice.
The hourglass, clocks, and watches mark the time lost trying to become anything other than her true self and the moment she chooses to reclaim it.
EleMental is about surviving the elements, embracing their strength, and transforming pressure into power. Reclaiming her time. Reclaiming her life.
