WhatUpDoe, Detroit!

Help us celebrate the birthday of another hometown hero by the name of Jerome Bettis.

The world knows him as the Hall of Fame running back nicknamed "The Bus".
But this legend was born in Detroit on Feb. 16, 1972.

Here are some of his life highlights for Mr. Bettis.

Hall of Fame running back for the Rams and Steelers.

High school: Detroit Mackenzie.

College: Notre Dame.

Drafted: 1st round by Rams in 1993 (No. 10 overall).

Honors: NFL offensive rookie of the year, 1993; six Pro Bowls; All-Pro, 1993, 1996; All-Pro second team, 1997.

By the numbers: Rushed for at least 1,000 yards in eight seasons, tied for third all-time when he retired. 13,662 yards was fifth all-time upon his retirement. Rushed for 91 touchdowns in 192 career NFL games.

When it was all said and done he won a Super Bowl Championship here in the "D" at Super Bowl XL.

In his own words about growing up in Detroit:

"So I think growing up in Detroit you learn from all those life lessons that you're taught," Bettis told the Free Press in a phone interview. "It wasn't one thing in particular, but growing up in Detroit it really hardened me to the point where when I left and went to Notre Dame I was mentally tough, I was physically tough. And that came from all the lessons you learn and the mistakes that you make growing up. It makes you a better person, if you learn from them."

Happy Birthday to the "BUS" from the all of us in the "D"

The Troy-based Detroit Auto Dealers Association announced Tuesday that the 2022 North American International Auto Show will return to downtown Detroit Sept. 14-25 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to DADA, the auto show will return to Huntington Place (formerly Cobo Center) and include several outdoor activations throughout the downtown area, which were being planned for 2020 and 2021 before the pandemic hit.

Among the outdoor venues being considered for NAIAS activities are Hart Plaza, the many downtown parks, the area around the Detroit Opera House, and Parker’s Alley behind the Shinola Hotel.

The show will host its press and industry days Sept. 14- 15, the charity preview event Sept. 16, and will be open to the public Sept. 17-25.

The 2022 auto show will highlight a wide range of vehicles, the technology enabling global mobility and electrification race, and Michigan’s position as a mobility and technology leader and incubator, according to organizers.

“We are proud to return to downtown Detroit and to work with Mayor Duggan and the city of Detroit again,” says Rod Alberts, executive director, DADA. “Capitalizing on everything we’ve learned over the past two and a half years, we are uniquely positioned to bring a dynamic, engaging, experiential show to Detroit in 2022.”

The 2022 show, Alberts says, is designed to embrace and grow underserved communities through broadened benefits to charities and will provide free, outdoor activities during the show.

Key Auto Show Dates

Sept. 14-15 — Press and Industry Days
Sept. 16 — Charity Preview
Sept. 17-25 — Public Days.

Via : It’s been three years since rapper Big Sean announced a partnership with Emagine Entertainment to bring an entertainment multiplex to downtown Detroit.

The initial plan was for the 10 to 12 screen theater to open in 2020, but needless to say the pandemic delayed those plans quite a bit.

While speculation began on what this multiplex could include, like a bowling alley and music venue, the location of the venue had yet to be determined.

Despite the hiccups of the last few years, it looks like Big Sean has found a home for the new theater as the rapper took to Instagram to share a photo of the under-construction site. Though the “What A Life” rapper has yet to disclose the location, Crain’s Detroit reported the site of the new theater will be in Midtown near Wayne State’s Campus.

It also seems Big Sean hasn’t derailed from the idea of a multiplex venue as he asked in his IG caption: “[...] what else should I put in here? Arcade? Lounge? Bowling? A intimate venue? Community Center? Let me know”

An official completion or opening date has not been revealed as of yet.
