Since it’s Father’s Day, I wanted to clear something up! A lot of people know Blacktop as a boutique, (and that’s correct) but… “Blacktop”? What does that even mean? What’s that got to do with clothes..? Or dirty sodas? Why the name “Blacktop”?
This is why.
I had an awesome father. The best, really, and these photos show that this is where he was happiest. I am so grateful to have been blessed with a dad who truly wanted his wife & kids to be a part of everything. Because of it, we made so many memories as a family!! Most of the memories were under a hood turning wrenches, or at events filled with burnt rubber, beautiful cars, and cool people. But…days like today have a tendency to bring back those memories, emotions, and grief that never completely goes away. Love leaves a mark, and so does loss. Not a day goes by where I don’t miss him and wish I could fill him in on every single day that has passed since he’s been gone.
If today feels hard for you too, know that you’re not alone. It’s okay to smile at the good memories and still miss them deeply. It’s okay to celebrate the impact they made while wishing they were still here. It’s okay to feel grateful and heartbroken at the same time. The people we love continue to leave fingerprints on our lives long after they’re gone. Sometimes it’s in the values they taught us. Sometimes it’s in the dreams they encouraged. And sometimes it’s in a little shop named after something they loved.
This place is more than a store. It’s a daily reminder of a guy who loved his family, loved hot rods, and made a lasting impact. Every customer, every milestone, every dream that’s come true inside these walls carries a little piece of him with it.
So today, whether you’re celebrating your dad, missing him, or carrying the weight of an empty chair, I hope you know this: love doesn’t end when someone leaves this earth. It keeps showing up in a thousand little ways.
And if you’re looking for proof, mine is named Blacktop. 🏁
