As a naive, twenty-year old, I would listen to Lennon’s music and sing these lyrics subjectively, not realizing how much truth was actually being hidden from me. This phrase became my mantra as I began to delve into politics and the news media. The deeper I looked the more deceptions I uncovered, like the movie The Matrix or should I say the documentary, lol. As the saying goes, “It’s easier to fool the people then convince them that they’ve been fooled”.

Wow! I couldn’t think of a more appropriate quote for today’s Americans and the way we have handed over our freedom for so-called security. I love my country and I love my rights, but I hate watching them be incrementally dialed back every time there is a crises, real or imagined. I certainly trust Americans and our ability to adapt and survive, more than I do another pork-filled, agenda-driven piece of legislation.

Le Penseur, Auguste Rodin conceived the idea of the iconic “Thinking Man” as part of his work The Gates of Hell, depicting a scene from Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. Volumes have been written on this masterpiece, but in short; every moment in life is a crises, no matter how small a decision may feel, every opportunity we have to utilize our free will either draws us nearer to our purpose or creates separation.
