Summer time is a great time for so many different events!! Time is what you need!! Flowers to plant, garden to water & freeze or can veggies. Family gatherings, picnics , sporting events to attend. Grandkids are always involved in something fun. And then, of course we have to include our hobby of sewing & quilting. Make time for that too!!
Time is what is needed in the shop some days, but have some things planned, I hope you can participate in.
MID-ATLANTIC SHOP HOP: July & August 78 quilt shops involved this year in 4 states (Pa, MD, Delaware, New Jersey) Get your magazine & get a passport stamped at each shop you visit. At the end of hop, many prizes to be given There is shop hop fabric. I am planning to have many patterns & kits available & other things to see.
Classes coming up in the next couple months:
In addition to classes, you are welcome to come any time to sew in the classroom, open sew times, we can assist you with projects. Longarm classes & ladies come to quilt those tops that need done. Rent the machines to quilt!!
Time for another Challenge!!!! We had a lot of fun with Ugly Duckling & Color/Block Challenge & there were some really nice quilts made. Okay----This is what I come up with for this challenge-----It will be a Theme Quilt. There will be Fabric Bundles to choose, then you will choose from a bag a Theme that you will make a quilt from the fabric bundle Rules will be posted soon, be looking for this challenge. Now we will see how creative you can be????? Lets start it----JULY 9TH
Block of the Month is: Tues 6/16, 7/21, 8/18 or Sat. 6/20, 7/25. 8/15 Continue to make the Lori Holt patterns with Riley Blake fabric. Flower & Quilt blocks, making a quilt. There are lots of Lori Holt patterns available, if not doing the Block of the Month
Quilts of Valor Sew: Continue to sew patriotic quilts and honor the veterans by giving them a quilt. Next presentation will be in Patton at American Legion on July 22, giving 13 veterans quilts. Join us to sew or donate a top for us to make a quilt 60 x 80 inches for the quilt. Thank the many volunteers that help us make these quilts. Sew days will be: June 6, July 18, August 1
Wed. June 24 11am Twister Class Using the twister ruler is a lot of fun & you create the neatest patterns. You can choose the pattern & will teach the technique of using the ruler different sizes used.
Fri. June 26 11am Tote made with the sewing fabric to carry all your supplies. Example in the shop. Time to make another tote.
Wed. July 8 11am Applique Class We can use the Accuquilt to cut out designs with Heat & Bond & then applique to make a neat wallhanging, pillow or quilt block. Time for you to learn how to applique, if you have never done or want to join then fun of stitching!!
Tues. July 14 11am Grid Interfacing used with Whims watercolor kits or can make tableunners Using 2 ½ inch square on grid interfacing. Makes sewing the squares together so easy.
Thurs. July 16 11am Twirly Girl Quilt. Has been a fun quilt to make with 2 ½ inch fabric strips sewed together to make a easy, nice quilt 2 quilt examples to view in the shop
Fri. July 24 11am Do you have some bird, dog, cow, or cat feed bag? We can turn that into a sturdy tote bag for you to carry your stuff. Quilt the bag on the longarm & then sew it with handles & it makes a great tote bag. And you will see how easy it is to longarm that bag.
Tues. Aug 4 1 – 3pm Longarm Class Will show you the basics of quilting on the longarm. Come & observe this quilting & you might want to then take class & start quilting those tops you need to finish. Can quilt---Free motion, Rulers, Stencils, Pantograms, Groovy Boards & the computer designs. So much fun to quilt on the Longarm.
Thurs. Aug 6 11am Crumb Quilting I know you have a fabric stash. Great way to use up some of those scraps. Will sew pieces together to make blocks & then a quilt You can be so creative!! It is addicting, once you start sewing those fabric scraps together.
Wed. Aug 12 11am Strip Quilting. There are so many different projects you can make sewing strips of fabric together. Once you sew the strips & cut with a ruler or make blocks, it is very creative. Will have examples of the different things you can make by swing strips together. You can choose what you want to make.
Thurs. Aug 13 11am Starting an Applique Block of the Month Each month we will make a block for the next holiday. These can them be hung a wallhangings. Have seen ladies make these & give to family/friends each month as a small gift. We will stay ahead of each holiday, so you have time to get it done. 1st month will be for fall & then make 1 each month. Should be a fun project to join.
Wed. Aug 19 11am Chenille wallhanings made from panels. Take 3 or 4 panels, layer them & sew lines & cut with the chenille cutter. Last month we sewed the stitching on the longarm, using the channel lock stitching, make it so easy to do. Fun project, if you have never done chenille cutting.
Handi quilter news: continue to quilt your quilt tops with the longarm—you choose the thread, quilt design, & batting. You can take a class, quilt your own tops by renting the longarms to do it. Go on the Handi quilter website to get educational posts & monthly promotions to buy a handi quilter. We continue to do service on any longarm.
Making t shirt quilts, If you have t shirts you never wear, can be made into a memory quilt, instead of in your dresser drawer & not worn. Eric does service on your domestic machines, as well as longarm service. He sharpens scissors & prints fabric pictures to be put on your quilts.
