When Buzz Snyder stopped by Black & Glen, he checked out our new ICON Series and found one that spoke to him—Freddie Mercury.

We can't say we're surprised.

A guy who spends his weekends on stage playing rock, blues and folk deserves a little rock & roll legend of his own.

Buzz was on stage at Soggy Bottom Brewery this past weekend, bringing his signature blend of great music, guitar and good vibes to the patio. And yes, he was looking pretty damn good doing it.

We're proud to have customers like Buzz who are part of the local music, food, art and entertainment scene that makes Dunedin, Dunedin.

Sometimes the best parts of a community event are the people who simply show up, share their talents and make the whole thing better. ❤️

At Pride on the Runway, photographer Lisa Sampietro of Dorky Daisy Photography was there capturing the evening on behalf of Dunedin Pride. After the show, Lisa graciously shared her photos with us—and we were blown away by what she captured. The movement. The personalities. The fashion. The laughter. And most importantly, the incredible energy in the room that night. 🌈 We've used so many of Lisa's images since the show, so it felt long overdue that we introduce you to the talented woman behind the camera.

Lisa, thank you for sharing your work with us and for helping preserve a night that meant so much to Black & Glen.

INTRODUCING The ICONS Collection from Black & Glen

They didn't follow style. They created style.
The people who inspire us at Black & Glen aren't always fashion designers.
Sometimes they're musicians. Artists. Rebels. Originals.

People who showed us that personal style isn't really about what you wear—it's about knowing exactly who you are and having the confidence to show the world. So it seems only fitting that our first and second ICONS in our series have been watching over Black & Glen all along.

Freddie Mercury & David Bowie
Both their faces hang as banners behind our Men's store—a celebration of the stylish Brits who helped inspire Black & Glen from the beginning. David Bowie has been in the store for a minute - but he was so popular, we decided to do more. Now Freddie is stepping off the wall and onto a shirt. ⚡️ Our Black & Glen Icons Collection tees are here, featuring original illustrated tributes to two of the greatest showmen—and greatest originals—of all time.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT - HALSTON 1932-1990

Halston taught us freedom.

Before Halston became a single-name icon, he was Roy Halston Frowick—a designer from Iowa who would eventually come to define the effortless glamour of 1970s America.

His clothes were deceptively simple. Soft fabrics. Clean lines. Few fasteners. Dresses that skimmed rather than restricted the body. At a time when fashion could still feel structured and complicated, Halston understood something revolutionary: Sometimes luxury is simply being comfortable enough to move.

His designs became synonymous with a new kind of American woman—independent, confident, modern and ready to dance.
And dance they did. Halston's world became inseparable from Studio 54, where fashion, art, music, celebrity and nightlife collided. His circle included Liza Minnelli, Bianca Jagger, Elizabeth Taylor and a group of models who became known simply as the Halstonettes.

But Halston's story also carries a warning.

He built one of the most recognizable names in American fashion, licensed that name aggressively and eventually lost control of the company—and even the ability to design under his own name. There's something heartbreaking about that. A man who spent his career helping people feel free eventually discovered how easily success can become its own kind of constraint.

Halston reminds us that style can be glamorous without being complicated. That clothes should move with us rather than hold us back. And perhaps most importantly: Never become so busy building your name that you lose ownership of who you are.
That's a lesson that goes well beyond fashion.

NEVER TOO OLD FOR A LITTLE CALIFORNIA. ☀️

Katin was born in Southern California surf culture, so yes—you’re going to see plenty of young surfer dudes wearing it.
But here’s the thing: Comfort doesn’t have an age limit. Neither does cool. You don't have to own a surfboard, live in California or be 25 to appreciate clothes that are comfortable, well made and ridiculously easy to wear.

That’s one of the reasons we like Katin at Black & Glen.

It has that laid-back, lived-in feeling that works especially well when Florida refuses to acknowledge that summer is supposed to end. Lightweight shirts. Easy shorts. Soft tees. Casual pieces that look good without looking like you tried too hard.
And maybe there’s a style lesson in there, too.

Getting older doesn't mean your wardrobe has to get older with you. You can steal an idea from the surfer dudes. Try something different. Wear something a little more relaxed. Maybe even learn something new.
