Art Mystery – Can Anyone Help Identify This Piece?
This artwork came into the store on consignment, and before we list it for sale, we’re trying to learn more about it.
After taking it apart for a closer inspection, we’ve uncovered some interesting clues:
✈️ Signed “HAIST” in the lower corner.
✈️ The black medium actually transfers slightly to your finger when rubbed.
✈️ The white highlights are raised and appear to have been applied by hand.
✈️ Visible pencil layout/grid lines surround the image area.
✈️ Mounted on Hi-Art Crescent Illustration Board, commonly used by professional artists and illustrators.
✈️ Overall size is approximately 24¾” x 20”.
The scene appears to depict an aviation or seaplane action scene with a harbor, aircraft, explosion, and a figure falling from the plane. Several collectors have suggested it may be original illustration artwork rather than a standard print, but we have not been able to positively identify the artist or the publication it may have been created for.
We’ve searched for artists with the surname Haist but haven’t found a definitive match.
Does anyone recognize:
🔍 The artist?
🔍 The aircraft?
🔍 The scene?
🔍 A magazine, book, advertisement, or publication where this may have appeared?
Please share with any artists, illustrators, aviation enthusiasts, military history buffs, collectors, or anyone who enjoys solving a good mystery. You never know who might recognize it.
