Kinda clean, kinda funky, definitely full of heart 🖤 Ultra Handmade Quality here folks.

My client who got this hat recommended a book to me, so while I spent the hours at the bench making it I gave the book a listen. It was all about a man watching life go by from his barber shop chair 1920s-1980s

A major theme of the story was the witnessing how quality in most aspects and product has degraded and cheapened as time moves forward. How values evolve or erode with ambition and modernization.

Makes me pi**ed off at the amount of consumer junk shoved down our throats all the time. But it also makes me proud to keep quality alive in what I make with my hands

Here he is! Already looking good in a hat but I think he might outgrow it super quick! We are stoked to welcome Alden James Simon to the world :) life as a dad has been super cool, a real perspective change. Amazing how the context of life shifts and all of a sudden and a new meaning emerges. Things that seemed so important before like sleep and work now seem trivial in a way, it’s kinda freeing and makes life much more enjoyable, playful, and light hearted. That’s the type of environment I prefer. So grateful for this life and family. Thank you all for supporting my craft and now my family:)

Well howdy folks, Shawn here for those of you who don’t know. I’m the fella turning out these felted wonders you been seeing. It’s been a while since we really got into it cause I’ve been pretty wrapped up L-I-V-I-N. Yeap life is happening, and I’m starting to think it’s how I’m spending all my time 🤔

Beautiful Rabbit fur in natural color. Kept with a western feel and special silver work done by the ever talented . I love adding that bit of silver bling and like OOOLALA! Brings that authentic touch of genuine hands and time spent

Just a bit on the evolution of my craft: lately I’ve been really enjoying blocking these rabbit fur felts. Soft and the way the light falls on the shape of the hat is really satisfying. I’m working on a line of these in botanical hues but for now I’m just going with the factory colors.
I have spent a lot of time in the world of natural dying but that never was what I set out to do. It came from being resourceful when I was starting out and couldn’t make MOQs per color from felt suppliers. I’m glad that it led me into a deeper connection to color and where it is sourced. It’s definitely not the fast track, but it’s a good one.

YES! This lil dood rocking that galactic rainbow juju!Making hats for the youngins is awesome. I love their creativity and bold choices. I was kinda like that when I was little too, but maybe a little different style and had some “interesting” outfit combos.

That hat color though! So special! His mamma actually dyed that one for me a while back in a super rad collab collection of botanical dyed felts from her garden .rainbow.elements Seriously talented natural dyer,artist as well as farmer and much more. Check out her stuff, really proud to have her colors on my felt. It’s awesome to see what other dyers cultivate

This last fall was a mast acorn year. This is a term for a phenomenon when all the oak trees get together and decide that they are going to make it rain with acorns 💸💰💸💸💸💰It’s a sort of mysterious thing.. like how do they all coordinate that kind of stuff?

In a way of honoring this gift from the oaks, I did quite a lot of dying using acorns. We even did a little workshop with .studio and back in September all about dying with acorns and different ways to use them in brewing up vat of hot color!

They are a great mordant to help pick up colors from other botanicals as well as a kinda neat color all to themselves. It’s a way to connect with season, place, and our relationship to what’s going on out there.

Slick lil onion skin dyed number. Featuring all the things: iron cloth ribbon, horse hair hitch, coin button. Sharp diamond crown and 2 1/4 brim. Made for a local fella. It’s alway a pleasure to make a hat for someone who I know I’ll run into from time to time

The workshop.. an ever evolving space of learning and honing craft. I Just built and installed this down draft table to help with dust control. Trying to save my lungs long term here for real. And it keeps the shop looking clean. My goal is to develop a full blown powerhouse of hat production in about 150’sq work area. It’s got to be tight!
