As more folks are heading out for some late summer backpacking adventures, we get a lot of questions about how to prioritize gear when they are looking for something new.

There are plenty of ways to save weight in your kit, but it all starts with the big three: your pack, your tent and your sleep system.

It’s good to remember that going ultra light is a bit different than aiming for weight efficiency , so it helps to know where you want to be. It’s also a good tome to take small steps when rethinking your kit so you learn what’s works and what doesn’t just for you.

We all know summer is long from over, but can’t deny that feeling that things are cooling down.

In a forest of pine trees
That’s covered in rocks
They now call it Dalla
The trail is Sailing Hawks
 
The big loop done clockwise
Whatever your pace
Because something magical stirs in this place.
 
Runner or hiker
you must be a beast
On top of a hill
you can only go east
 
Be sure to look closely
and try as you might
There should a package
that’s just out of sight
 
It’s yours if you find it
A wooly soft treat
feast with your eyes
But wear with your feet
