At 86 years old, Pennsylvania farmer Mervin Raudabaugh was offered more than $15 million by developers who wanted to turn his 261 acres of farmland into a data center. Despite the life changing payout, Raudabaugh refused, saying he had spent decades farming the land and could not bear to see it destroyed. For him, preserving the farm's legacy and protecting valuable farmland mattered more than the money.

Instead, Raudabaugh sold the land's development rights for about $1.9 million through a farmland preservation program, ensuring the property can remain agricultural land for future generations. He said the farm had been his life's work and worried that once farmland is developed, it is gone forever. His decision earned widespread praise from the community, with many applauding his commitment to protecting open space and preserving a way of life that is rapidly disappearing.
