Hi Fam 👋🏾 After 3 years of providing sliding scale services to Durham—Rori, Sól, and I have decided to close Obsydian Studio. While I hoped to take over the space this fall, ultimately I didn’t get that opportunity. In honor of our hard work and amazing clients we’re throwing a studio closing party next Saturday July 13th @ 6:30pm at The Haunt at (next door to the studio).

Come thru for masked & socially distanced fun. We have limited edition t-shirts and a raffle featuring a donated tattoo certificate from .body, a bo***ir photoshoot, and two self care gift sets. Potluck dishes are welcome and encouraged (please label known allergens).

This party is also a fundraiser because shutting down is expensive. Even if you can’t make it, we appreciate donations to our PayPal 🔗 in bio to help us hire movers, secure storage, and get back on our feet as we heal from everything contributing to this decision.

Moving forward the booth featuring at the will continue. I am always here for consultations and custom hair jewelry/extensions. Our first kids hair care workshop at the North Durham Library is this fall, and soon we’ll start booking birthday parties, curlfriends nights, and corporate retreats. Stay tuned!

My jewelry collection hit a new high today ... I've been trying to figure out what you do with these Pauli Murray quarters ever since I found out about the drop last year. They've been sitting in my home for months and creativity HIT right in time for the Braggtown Community Association Juneteenth Celebration. I'm sooooooo happy with these pendants!

Diamond shaped metal frame holds a color photo of Rev Dr Pauli Murray on one side and their quarter set in glitter resin in the other. The quarter is still at the surface so you can admire it by touch. The resin encapsulation bubbles the photo in a fish eye lens sorta way. The shine is unreal. The glitter chosen to frame the quarter represents trans pride flag colors.

Leaders of the LGBTQ Center of Durham laid off four employees due to delayed reimbursement from grants, grants ending, and the cancellation of Pride last year for weather.

This has resulted in housing insecurity, sudden and immediate loss of health insurance, and shortfalls in survivor services at the center since most of the people were laid off worked with survivors and in public health.

80% of the $50,000 these laid off workers are asking for is to cover their expenses. The remaining 20% is for the clients left in limbo. Please donate if you can. And if you can donate to the center, please do--but in that order. Salaries are suspended for those still employed.

The letter about the chain of events from the Acting Director of the Center will be shared in the comments.
