This message is not just for the athlete or the writer; it’s for the learner.

We’ve been asked by SmoochPit , “What do you hope to learn?”

Well, I hope to take a risk, to share that I’m entering, even with the very real possibility that I may not be selected.

I’m looking to improve my craft, but also to trust my ability. I’m looking to continue this journey towards traditional publication, whether I earn a mentor or learn from applying…

Which I already am, like a team, a few writers and I have shared our submission packages. That’s community. That’s a classroom. That’s already a win.

And if not this book, then the next, which I’m already almost finished with. 🫶

There’s no timeline for success, just people brave enough to share their goals and the winding path it takes to get them there.

This applies to anyone entering or not. Writer or not.
Be brave enough to believe that you can blossom. 🌼

It’s 2007 and I’m in the studio audience of a Tyra episode. We’re not told ahead of time what they’re taping. A panel of men are asked their opinions about a slew of women, revealing their preferences and stereotypes. I can’t help it, I raise my hand bothered by & skeptical of what’s been said…

It’s 2026 and I’m writing a novel about a cynical thirty-year old who believes connection is dead and dating apps are to blame, until one intelligent application guarantees its users their perfect match, love that isn’t years away or separated by continents.

I’m an open book. I’ll tell you anything and everything I’ve learned. It’s what community is all about. ✨

I’m still learning and now not only do I have one manuscript I’m itching to edit again—once I receive my feedback—but also a second almost finished manuscript!

When I query my second novel, there are strategies I’ll repeat and steps I’ll change the order of. That’s what learning and adapting is all about.
