When we got home from vacation yesterday, I realized we'd accidentally left behind Oliver's diapers at my parents' house. 🤦‍♀️ I didn't want to buy disposables, and I remembered I had a stash of AWJ pocket diapers from back when Addy used them. I pulled them out of storage this morning, and wah-la! We're still cloth diapering! 🙌

I'm thankful we had a back up, but I'm definitely missing his preflats! I kind of forgot how much trimmer they are than pockets.

What kind of diapers do you use? Do you keep back ups? Have you ever had to use them?

Do you need to “reset” your cloth diapers for any of the reasons on slide two? Here are step-by-step instructions on how to strip and sanitize your stash!

1) Start by taking CLEAN diapers and placing them in your washing machine or tub. If you’re using pockets, you’ll want to separate the pocket from the insert if you haven’t already.
2) Fill the tub with hot water until the diapers are covered, but still have room to move around.
3) Add 3 packets of RLR (can be purchased on amazon) and stir everything really well!
4) Let sit for at least two hours, but not more than 8, stirring about every hour.
5) When they're done soaking, wring them out and put them in a normal wash cycle in your washer to remove the strip solution. No need to add more detergent here.

It can be so frustrating when your diapers stink and you can't figure out why! Here is a quick guide to help you out. Most of the time, if your diapers stink, it’s one of these two smells, and it’s pretty easy to tell the difference!

Ammonia smells similar to windex and can make your eyes water. If you have this smell, it’s from the diapers not being cleaned well enough in their wash. When left unresolved, it can cause chemical burns on your baby. 😫 Don’t worry though, it’s an easy fix: add more detergent to your wash cycle!

However, if you have a barnyard smell, this means you most likely have detergent build up from using too much detergent in your wash routine. This can also cause rashes on baby. You’re going to want to rinse all your diapers until the water runs clear!

We received some feedback that our preflats ran small. It's important to note that every baby is different, and will fit preflats differently and for a different amount of time. However, enough mamas were mentioning that they felt ours ran small, that we adjusted our pattern to be larger! Now when you order from my shop on Etsy, both the newborn and one-size preflats will be the larger size. Who’s excited for this change? 👋

If you’ve tried both sizes, what are your thoughts? I thought I wouldn’t like them bigger, but I actually do! Tutorial videos on how to fold coming soon. 🙂

You might notice a slight difference in our cloth diaper fabric since we've reopened. Instead of the jersey we were using before, we're now using french terry. It's still the same buttery soft, stretchy bamboo blend you loved before, but now there is extra absorbency! The french terry loops on the interior of the diaper allow the preflats to hold more while remaining trim. It's a win-win! 😉

Contours are quickly becoming a favorite of mine for Oliver! I love how easily I can get a good leg seal. Plus, with the sewn-in booster I have all the absorption I need! 🙌
