The Daisy in Bandana. A paisley scaled up and softened until it stopped being a bandana. Short, easy, and is calling for some boots.

La semaine, no. 3.
The sweet pea stripe went into the sale this week. It is one of my own favorites and I wear the Iris and the Francine constantly, but it is a hot-weather print and the hot weather is leaving.
Two of the new pieces came home with me: the Anez, which is what I am wearing Monday, and the Piper in lilac, paler and softer in person than it photographs.
And Monday is the one. Stealing Beauty at The Parkway, doors at 5.30 with Hermine’s Tuscan vintage in the lobby, film at 7. A film about a summer that is ending, which is where we are.

Somebody described a cotton voile to me this week as feeling “cheap” and I have been thinking about it ever since like an absolute crank. ✦
So here is the thing nobody tells you. Voile is French for veil. That is the whole idea, sitting right there in the name. It was never trying to be opaque.
And the part that gets me: a fine voile is HARDER to weave than a thick one. Fine yarn breaks, so the loom runs slower, fewer yards a day, more skill in the hands of the person running it. Then it gets woven open on purpose, so there is less cotton in your hand at the end of all that work. It costs more per yard, not less. You are holding the expensive one!!
I went down a whole rabbit hole on this for the newsletter - Dhaka muslin, which they called woven air, the Edwardians in their sheer white garden dresses with zero anxiety about it, what I actually wear underneath mine, and which of ours are already lined so you never have to think about it.
