Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo!
Today's dress-of-the-day is for a Vow-Renewal taking place in West Virginia.
This Bridal Princess actually came to Fairy Godmother Alterations with a different wedding dress:
The dress she arrived with was a strapless Ivory satin A-line gown, with a black satin band around the hemline, and black lace throughout the front of the bodice, that zipped in the back.
Though that dress with court-length train fit perfectly, this Bride wanted a lace-up back, as what was - falsely! - promised by the site that she had ordered from (see last photo).
Not only that, but both her and the Fairy Godmother were quite disappointed in how the Black embellishments, including a satin sash, were ONLY added to the front side of the dress, cheapening the look, so naturally, this Bride also wanted more black lace added to the back along with a lace-up conversion.
Converting a zip-up to a lace-up is actually one of Fairy Godmother's specialties, but this time, she had a better idea!:
Upstairs among her vintage bridal gown collection, she brought down a similarly styled, late-2000's wedding dress, complete with a lace-up back feature, by Alfred Angelo, style 1612, AND IT WAS IN HER SIZE!!!!
Not only that, but the hemline to this A-line skirt with chapel-length train fell at the perfect length too!
So of course, this Bride instantly fell in love with this similar gown, and could immediately see the difference in quality between this White with Black accented dutchess satin gown, and the cheaper satin one she wore moments before.
It was meant to be.
So luckily, only minimal alterations were needed for this perfect wedding dress:
First, Fairy Godmother made a white panel to go behind the Black lace-up section of this dress, since it was missing.
Usually, the panel is supposed to be of matching color, but this time White was chosen so that the Black ribbon tie (and black loops) would stand out, to give it some very slight contrast for visual interest.
Next, Fairy Godmother removed the black satin band of fabric from the hemline of the other dress, and sewed it around the hemline of the Alfred Angelo gown, just below all the beaded embroidery design details on the skirt.
The Fairy purposely did not add the black material all the way around the skirt- just up to each side of the beaded Black ribbon tails that cascaded all the way down from the backside of the straight neckline.
This was done to keep the fully embroidered center back panel of the dress the visual focus.
Now, the solid black hemline on the gown balanced the black-accented and beaded scroll embroidered strapless neckline, making the whole dress look complete!
Last but not least, a French style underbustle was added to the back, for the long train.
An underbustle was chosen since it would be more flattering for the embroidery-detailed accent-color tails.
Today, this vow-renewal Bride will feel like a true princess in this classic princess-seamed gown, adorned with tons of beautiful, timeless, and eye-catching pearl-embellished and beaded scroll embroidery motifs throughout the entire gown, that now has just enough black.
Until next attire, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo!
