⚡️REPOST FROM ⚡️
A Nuyorican from Harlem and a Nuyorican from the lower East side. His was the final performance to take place for our gente at the legendary Amphitheater on The Lower East Side. Eddie Palmieri and his band tore it down on Aug 11th 2019 before the amphitheater would eventually disappear with questions surrounding whether or not we will get it back. It was fitting to have a legend of this magnitude that meant so much to our people close the curtains of our beloved Amphitheater. I was blessed to be there and get to chop it up with this icon and ask for La Bendicion. “Vamonos Pal Monte” was my first connection to the mountains of Puerto Rico🤲🏾✊🏾
“…..Palmieri was caught up in the political unrest of that time and his political sentiments were often reflected in his music. As a result, his recordings often made political statements against poverty and injustice, as is evident in Vamonos Pa’l Monte. The title track Vamonos Pa’l Monte (“Let’s go to the mountains”) is more than an invitation for urban Latinos to attend a rural party. As Ismael Quintana, legendary sonero (singer) and co-writer of the song, explains: “The lyrics were about trying to cope with the injustices in the world. It meant let’s get out of this crazy mess and so much negativity that we live in, and let’s go to the mountains.” This song is considered an all-time classic in Latin Music. Quintana adds: “Of all the songs I recorded with Eddie Palmieri, this has to be the most influential. That song was played and requested everywhere we would go in Latin America” -Excerpt from Fania Records Website.
Saluting the icon and our good brother, the incomparable, Power Malu rockin’ our Ghetto Brothers logo tee. Yours only at www.ATWcrew.com 👊🏼
