Royal Blue Traders I am an 18th-Century tailor and all era wool merchant. I do my best to provide as historically correct product as I can to my clients.

My tailor’s shop specialises in clothing from the American War of Independence. I do my best to make sure that my work is both as accurate and as affordable as possible. I work hard to make sure that my clients get their garments as quickly as possible, all while being a one person shop. I also run a fabric shop with the goal of getting re-enactors the most affordable and authentic wool fabrics po

ssible. I try to keep a stock that is correct for Impressions from 800CE all the way to 1800CE. Aside from wool I also have a wide range of notions available, ranging from wool tapes to silk buttonhole twist.

On another snow day, I thought I'd post about the importance of basting. Basting is the only way to keep every layer of fabric in place while sewing and is the best way to avoid puckering in a garment. That doesn't mean I don't use pins, I just use them to compliment basting. 18th-Century garments often don't look good laying flat or on a coat hanger either, so basting is a good way for you to be sure that everything is in the right place while you're sewing

Basting doesn't need to look nice either, all you need to do is a long running stitch that you can take out when the garment is done.
