Made a couple of house coats during the snow storm last week. I drafted the pattern from a house coat my grandmother Millie made from a crazy quilt in the ‘40s. It is far too precious and fragile to wear, so I made these to wear, and probably will only wear them for fancy events. A house coat for leaving the house… hmm. Anyway, the first one incorporates several prints and a pinwheel quilt top I never backed, lined with green and pink gingham silk blend. It is called the Flower Power house coat. The second is made from a heavyweight pinstripe cotton with a subtle gold silk lining, très chic. It’s called The Gatsby house coat.

A burst of color and flare as we trudge through winter. I’ve been sitting on this fabric I got from and today the shape revealed itself as a butterfly bell bottoms and a straight vest. Savoring these years while my kids let me style them.
