I am giving an update on the quilt contest that has been at Rock County Fair for the last 4 years. The Fair Board has removed the Open Quilt Contest, that we have supported, from the fair. It was a great opportunity for many people to display their works of art and have them judged by a wonderful lady who was very impartial and gave constructive feedback. We are very disappointed by this decision. We are working on an alternative way to enjoy the same display and have the quilt auction, with at least 3 quilts donated so far this year. The money raised from the auction went to the 4-H Alumni Scholarship Fund. We will find another youth organization that can benefit from the generosity of the auction.
I would like to thank the quilt stores in Rock County that have donated money for the cash prizes. Ronna Morton Ballmer for hitting the start button the first year.
Thank you to Bob Johnson from Badger Auction Service for his donation in selling the quilts donated in the past.
Thank you to Bill Schweder for building a beautiful quilt ladder for putting the quilts on. It is fabulous and we will use it many more times.
Thank you to Rhonda and Tina from The Sassy Chicks Quilt Company for being on this adventure with me. All the planning, making the ribbons, notecards for the judging, setting up and tearing down the displays, supplying the quilt hangers and clips. Being the holder of quilts during the judging. Not always a glory job with wonderful large warm quilts on a very warm 90 degree day. And last but not least the many participants that brought quilted items for the contests, without your support we would not have had success in having such a great display.
I will keep updating when we have plans for another quilt judging event in the future.
