A Sweet Kentucky Bride

This lovely bride needed extensive alterations done on her gown.
-beaded straps shortened
-4” hem taken off on the front semi-circle with 4 layers, requiring all the floral embroidery appliqués be unstitched, netting cut and appliqués restitched in a beautiful new pattern that flowed with the dress design (unfortunately, it had been stitched on with invisible thread and the netting is very fragile)
-bustle holding 4 layers on its anchor hook & eye

She was pleased with the work and looked beautiful in it!

This mother of the bride is ready with her rehearsal dinner dress & dress for the wedding day. The dress lining on the right dress required a stabilizer to be able to hem it in place. I’m finding this necessary in some knits and micro fibers. It will sew fine a few stitches, then create a big gap stitch. But with the stabilizer it sews perfectly!

I am getting more clients from out of state and I appreciate the fact that they are willing to make the drive to have me do their alterations for an important occasion.

Karen came from Illinois to have me alter her two dresses. She looks great in both dresses! Wishing her and her family a beautiful wedding day.

Sharilynn styling her new custom quilt jackets from repurposed quilts. Both have themes: the one on the left is the Alhambra Theatre mixed with a 30’s feed bag quilt, the other is her IU super fan jacket that includes a rally towel on the lining, a championship patch on the pocket and custom fabric patches of her and her family at the football 🏈 stadium.

Tiers & Layers of an Appliquéd Lace Wedding Gown

Never underestimate the time it takes to unstitch all the lace appliqués of a wedding gown hem that needs to be taken up 4”. The picking of stitches is even more complicated when it’s been stitched to the fragile netting with invisible thread.

Now to go back and fill in the blank areas of the netting with a portion of the appliqués.

The first musician I became aware of, outside of church, was Dolly Parton on the Porter Wagoner show in the late 60’s.

Wagoner owned a big part of her publishing company she had with her uncle at the time. Eventually, she decided to break away and do her own solo career. Because of that breakup she wrote “I Will Always Love You”…even Elvis was interested in recording it, but she would have to sign over 50% in publishing rights. Fortunately, she was a good business person and refused.

What an amazing, talented, bright light she was. Rest in peace Dolly. Thank you for your incredible legacy, love of all humans and generosity.

The Multi Layered Wedding Gown

This gown has 8 layers and all of them needed to be shortened. You’d be surprised how physical this work is and the space needed to accommodate the portion of the gown not being worked on while sewing the other end of the gown.
