Varying breeding dates across the state and an average gestation period of about 200 days means that fawns are a normal sight across Alabama - sometimes hidden in plain sight and always alone. Our staff is receiving a lot of calls from folks asking what they’re to do with these found fawns, and the answer is ❗️NOTHING❗️

You will not see a doe. You are keeping her away. Stop checking. Leave the fawn alone. Take its picture if you must. Blow it a kiss if you’re so inclined. But DO NOT pick it up!

The notion that you are a necessary hero who should intervene in a fawn’s normal circumstances is misguided and incorrect. Rescue is not required! If you find one that is INJURED, contact us for guidance. Click here for more info: https://www.outdooralabama.com/node/1304
