Before you start mowing or spraying for weeds this season, I want to invite you to pause—and consider the dandelions.

They're often seen as just weeds, signs of a lawn that’s gotten away from us. But dandelions are actually among the first wildflowers to bloom in early spring, and they offer something truly important: nourishment for pollinators.

🐝🦋🐝🦋Bees, butterflies, and other pollinators emerge from the long winter hungry, searching for food sources in a still-sleepy landscape. Dandelions are rich in nectar and pollen when not much else is blooming yet. Just by letting a small patch bloom and grow, you’re offering a lifeline to these vital creatures.

Dandelions also have deep taproots that pull nutrients up through the soil, supporting the health of your yard in ways you might not see but that your soil certainly feels.

So this spring, as you fire up your mower, consider this gentle act of leaving atleast one patch of dandelions to stand tall. It’s a small kindness, a quiet way to say, “You matter” to the bees, to the butterflies, and all of the pollinators that connect us🤍
