Since we opened the surf shop in 2020, it’s always been important to us to support local and regional artists. To kick off our Friday Featured Artist segment this season I give you just a sampling of the work of Fish Creek resident Rachel Sowinski.

She was born and raised in here in Door County. Moved to Green Bay to attend UWGB where she began working at The Gift Itself on Broadway. She later purchased the business in 2012 representing artists from across the US with an in house focus on jewelry production, custom jewelry and repairs.

She moved back to Fish Creek in 2022 to be closer to family and start one of her own. She now does independent metalsmithing work from her home studio and customs along with creating of one of a kind stained glass window adornments exclusively for our shop.

Our in house artist/sewist has a screen print project she’s working on for the month of June to benefit an important local organization, HELP of Door County. Her Lady Liberty/Rosie the Riveter mash up design was part of an event last month at Peninsula Art School. If you missed the event you have another opportunity to get your hands on a new shirt or upcycle an item of clothing you already own by dropping it off to be printed by her. There’s a small fee of $10/item for upcycle printing that goes directly to HELP. All proceeds of new shirts available for preorder benefit HELP as well.

What do you get when you cross a surf shop counter with an 80’s born owner. One hell of a constantly rotating and evolving sticker collection. We’re open for the season this Friday. Our hours until June 13th are as follows:

Monday: CLOSED (except this Monday, Memorial Day we’ll be here 10AM-12NOON)
Tuesday: CLOSED
Wednesday: 11-3
Thursday 11-3
Friday: 11-5
Saturday: 11-5
Sunday:11-3

Corduroy season is a real gem and bold colors are always in season. New to the shop this week are WELD MFG Field Trip 5 panel hats. They feature a Scandinavian folk art Cana Cove patch and are even cuter in person. Stop in and check the cozy vibes this surf season.

August is somehow here. We somehow don’t have a “case of the Augusts” either for two years in a row now which is kind of refreshing. Not sure the same can be said for service industry champions, ya’ll are the real MVPs.

Mining for joy has been at the forefront this summer and part of that has been the cultivation of our Resort Resale rack. Thanks to all who combed through, found their vibe and appreciated it. We’re definitely keeping it around in the future. Plenty of summer days left to squeeze those lemons and level up your bayside attire! Tuck away that sad beige for later, babe!
