Rose Hill Workshop

Rose Hill Workshop Rose Hill Workshop is here to make your ideas come to life. Hello! I’m Margaret May, the person behind Rose Hill Workshop (formerly Margaret May Designs).

With 15 years of Industry Patternmaking experience and 25 years of sewing experience, we can take you from ideation through to a production ready sample. I spent my childhood painting and drawing, all the while my grandmothers taught me how to sew. When choosing a career I fell in love with textiles and clothing, fit and finish, and have stayed in that profession for the last decade. Rose Hill Wor

kshop is merging all of these. Named after the hill I grew up on in Elkton, Tennessee, Rose Hill Workshop is here for creative endeavors. I am thrilled to offer patternmaking, first sample and small run production services, as well as custom pieces and lessons. Based in Florence, Alabama, I will be working in a home studio. I am happy to travel to the Middle Tennessee/Northern Alabama area for fittings, and also have experience working with designers located throughout the country fitting virtually. This space will also be used to continue to push my boundaries with my personal art endeavors: painting, photography, drawing, embroidery. I have loved all of these from a young age, but for years I felt like I needed to focus on patternmaking. I am excited to introduce these mediums back into my life, reigniting the joy that they bring me and sharing them with the world, as well as continuing to learn and create in new ways.

Raleigh came to us in search of a bridal look with a twist. While she wanted it read as bridal; she did not want it to look like anything you've seen at a bridal shop. Raleigh is a floral designer and has a keen eye for proportion and balance, so she was deeply involved in the design process. We started with a pinterest board of inspiration she compiled as well as some pieces from her own wardrobe she liked the fit of.
From there we drew dozens of options for tops and skirts for her to choose her favorites from. Once narrowed down we combined and tweaked until we came up with something perfect.
The result was a completely unique and avant-garde bridal look made from 3 types of silk with lots of texture, movement, and "jellyfish vibes."

Check back for the big reveal!

Taylor is an unconventional bride that came to us to help her create the perfect dark fairy tale wedding gown. She originally asked us to alter an existing black and red dress, but when she stumbled up a thrifted new with tags white gown that fit perfectly she couldn't pass it up.
To bring her gothic dreams to life we combined this white dress with tulle and lace we salvaged from an existing black and red dress. We experimented with lace placement and trying out different sleeves until it was just right.
The final result is this beautifully dark and romantic wedding gown.

While we love making completely custom pieces; it's also a treat when we can take a piece you already love and give it new life.

Sneak peek of one of two dresses we upcycled for our beautiful bride’s wedding, for the rehearsal dinner we turned the mother of the bride’s gown into a cocktail dress fit for a princess, that both she and her sister will be able to wear!

Which skirt would you want to wear? We kept the integrity of the beaded neckline & sleeve of the original dress intact, but got to play with drama when it came to the skirt.

Throwback to 2021 🧵✨
Just two small rooms in Margaret’s basement, a bunch of machines, and a big dream. This is where Rose Hill began. Fast forward to today, and we’ve grown to fill the whole basement, stitch by stitch. Grateful for every step, and every thread of support. ❤️

Here’s a look at another one of our vintage kimono upcycles. The print was a so much fun to work with, and the details, like the covered buttons and appliqué on the back, make this such a special piece.
