The day I got Oliver changed my life forever, and I hope I changed his too.
At the time, I was having a really hard time. I was being bullied and was getting ready to switch schools, so I was pretty sad and struggling with a lot of things. Then one day, Oliver came into my life.
For those who don't know the story, my mom went to PetSmart to buy dog food for our other two dogs (the "& Co." in Oliver StrayHaven we were there, a local shelter called StrayHaven had some adoptable dogs set up. At the very end of the aisle was a little black-and-white dog named Snoopy.
Snoopy had a sad story. He had been in the shelter twice. The first time, he was found as a puppy after being dumped in a bag. The second time, he had been adopted by an older man who loved him, but sadly became very sick and had to give him back. By only 2 years old, Snoopy was struggling and seemed like he had almost given up.
The moment I saw him, I fell in love.
To my surprise, Mom and Dad said yes! So Mom went into PetSmart for dog food and came out with a dog, a bed, toys, treats, and pretty much everything else he needed!
Even though I loved the name Snoopy, I wanted to give him a fresh start. I started searching online for names and came across Oliver James. The second I saw it, I knew that was his name.
From there, everything started to change. My mom helped me nurse Oliver back to health, and during that time I came up with the idea for Oliver & Co. Hat Cafe + Boutique. Not only did it help me work toward my dream of owning a business, but it also gave me a way to help shelter dogs by donating 10% of our earnings back to animal shelters.
Oliver has now been with us for a little oyear, and this month Oliver & Co. is celebrating its first birthday too!
