Happy Father's Day to all the dads, stepdads, uncles, older brothers, teachers, coaches, and father figures who show up for the people they love.
I share this photo every year on Father's Day. It's one of my favorite pictures of my two dads: my dad and my ex-stepdad. When my mom and stepdad got divorced, I got to keep him.)
As a kid from a divorced home, holidays usually meant dividing my time between the people I loved. If you've ever had to figure out whose house to visit, what time to leave, or how to make everyone happy, you know it can be exhausting.
Somewhere along the way, that changed. I'm not sure when it started, but at some point I found myself spending Father's Day with both of my dads at the same time.
Every year when I look at this picture, I'm reminded what a gift that was. My dad and stepdad respected each other enough that I never felt like I had to choose between them. Even though I was an adult when this photo was taken, that mattered more than they probably realized.
Father's Day is always a little bittersweet. I miss them both, but I'm also reminded of how lucky I was to have two men who loved me enough to make room for each other.
Happy Father’s Day!
if you’re lucky enough to still have your dad, give him a call today. If not, I’d love to hear about him. Tell me something about your dad or a father figure who made a difference in your life. 💜
