Useful for all those who wants to start their bowling journey!
โก THE 5 POINTS for buying your firs ball
Number 1 โ Weight.
A simple rule: your ball should be about 10% of your body weight, up to 16 pounds. For kids, start between 6 and 10 pounds. When in doubt โ go lighter. A ball that's too heavy kills your form and accuracy.
Number 2 โ Coverstock.
This is what the ball is made of. As a beginner, grab a plastic or polyester ball โ it goes straight, it's easy to control, and you can find great ones on Amazon for $40 to $80. Save the fancy reactive resin balls for when you've built a consistent game.
Number 3 โ Finger Fit.
Your thumb, middle finger, and ring finger go into the holes โ and fit matters. Pre-drilled balls off Amazon work great for casual and family bowlers. If you get serious, take it to a pro shop for a custom drill for about $30 to $60 โ totally worth it.
Number 4 โ Straight vs. Hook.
Be honest about how you bowl right now. Beginners should bowl straight โ it's more consistent and easier to learn. Once your footwork and release are solid, THEN add the hook. Don't run before you walk.
Number 5 โ Budget.
You do NOT need to spend $200 on your first ball. $50 to $100 gets you everything you need as a beginner. I've got my top picks linked in the description โ all on Amazon, all family-friendly options.
