🚨🧱 Pokémon Trainers, get ready to build your next adventure! ⚡

LEGO and Pokémon have officially revealed a brand-new line of SMART Play Pokémon sets, and preorders are live now! These aren't your typical LEGO builds—many of the sets feature interactive SMART Play technology that responds with lights, sounds, motion, and battle mechanics, bringing Pokémon training and battles to life in an entirely new way.

Fan-favorite Pokémon like Pikachu, Charizard, Eevee, Mewtwo, Gengar, Umbreon, Lapras, Squirtle, and more are included across the new wave of sets, with launches scheduled for August 1, 2026.

As a Pokémon collector, I love seeing the hobby continue to expand beyond cards into new collectibles that bring the Pokémon world to life. Whether you're a LEGO builder, Pokémon fan, or both, these sets look like they'll be a huge hit.

🔥 Which set would you preorder first?

Yellow All,

Sending these bad boys to PSA. Got the submission in before the pause. Still, be four months or more till I see them 😅.

Wish me luck 🙂.

Yellow All,

I'm gonna try and get some cards in before the 2nd 🫤.

Hopefully, after this back log them wait times go down!

Be real interesting to see where prices go. Do you think pricing will change for other PSA grades and/or for other grading companies like CGC or TAG? 🤔

Pokémon and MTG are no longer playing the same game

Yeah, that headline nails the vibe shift happening in TCGs right now. Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering basically split into two different hobbies that happen to use cardboard.

The core split: Collecting vs Playing

Pokémon TCG went full “cardboard gold” mode. The hype is around nostalgia, art, and investment. A Pikachu Illustrator just sold for $16.4M in Feb 2026, and The Pokémon Company did $10.2B in global sales in 2023. For a lot of people, ripping packs is about chasing alt-art Charizards to grade and slab, not building a deck for Friday Night League. The market treats it like sports cards or art.

MTG doubled down on being a game first. Hasbro reported MTG revenue hit $1.7B in 2025, up 59% year-over-year, mostly from players. The Universes Beyond sets like Final Fantasy brought tons of people in, but the secondary market still revolves around playability. If a card is good in Commander or Standard, it costs money. If it’s just pretty, it usually doesn’t. Tournament integrity and mechanics are still the engine.

The weird part? Actually playing is dirt cheap for both. You can build a top-tier competitive deck for around $50 in either game right now. That Rhystic Buddies reel wasn’t kidding — a whole Pokémon meta deck costs less than one MTG collector booster. The reason: Pokémon scalpers flood the market with bulk staples, while MTG keeps staple prices up because demand comes from players, not just flippers.

So what are you actually buying?
Pokémon pack: A lottery ticket for a chase card. Most players don’t care about the C/UC commons in gameplay.
MTG pack: Pieces for a deck. Even commons matter if they’re playable.

The TCG market overall is still exploding — about $8B in 2026, heading to $11.5B by 2031. New games like Disney Lorcana and One Piece are trying to pick sides, but Pokémon and MTG already planted their flags.

Are you more on the collector side or player side? And do you think Pokémon should lean back into gameplay, or is the slab market too big to ignore now?

Yellow,

I wish I lived anywhere near the Field Museum 🙂.

According tho the Museum site,

"⚡️The Pokémon Fossil Museum exhibition will make its North American debut at the Field Museum on May 22, 2026 — April 11, 2027! This one-of-a-kind experience brings together the worlds of Pokémon and paleontology, inviting visitors to compare fossil Pokémon like Tyrantrum and Archeops with real-world fossils—including SUE the T. Rex."

Yellow All,

There's so many different types of error cards, but I truly didn't know so many variants of the 1st Ed stamp error existed.

Make sure to take a close look at your 1st Ed cards. You might have a lot more value then you think.
