79 years ago today, the G-E Voltmen brought a national championship home to Fort Wayne.
On September 2, 1947, the Voltmen defeated Golden Coors to capture the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kansas. It was Fort Wayne’s first national semi-pro baseball championship—and the beginning of three consecutive titles under the Voltmen name.
That remarkable run would eventually reach four straight championships for Fort Wayne, with the club competing as the Fort Wayne Capeharts in 1950.
Today, we remember the team that started it all.
