Happy new year! We’re back! I apologize for the lack of posts lately, but I’m hoping to make up for lost time now.

Great news! We now have two booths at Lone Star Antique Mall in Haltom City. Moved in the end of November and loving it! If you don’t know, the mall is HUGE and has so many cool booths - more than 250! There’s also a tea room that makes the best sandwiches and soup. We’re doing great there so far - the mall has a steady stream of shoppers during the week and a flood on the weekends!

Update: We moved out of the Aledo antique mall this week, so will only be at Lone Star and Alley Cat now.

Watch for photos of new-old merchandise and come see us soon!

✨Coming soon to Alley Cat Vintage Mercantile!✨
These five lovely dresses - circa late 1960s - are part of my large vintage clothing collection numbering more than 500 pieces. Yes, 500! Women’s dresses, wedding gowns, pantsuits (like the green one pictured here), blouses, skirts, jackets and overcoats from the 50s through Y2K, handmade and store-bought baby, toddler and children’s clothes from the 50s and 60s, men’s suits, jackets, college T-shirts, polos, novelty and pop culture T-shirts, women’s vintage shoes, purses and jewelry - we have it all! Just need to find someplace to display it all so we can share them with our customers. Come see our booth and all the others at Alley Cat and its neighbor Magpie Collective on Lamar Street in Wichita Falls.

(DM us if you’d like to schedule a private showing of our clothes collection.)

Did you know that much of the inventory in our booths is from our own personal collection acquired over more than three decades throughout Texas, Louisiana, Colorado, Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, California and Washington? It’s true!

And I may not remember what I had for lunch yesterday or the name of the actor who played in that movie about that thing that happened (you know the one, kinda short, has dark hair, married to that actress…what’s-her-name😂), but I can tell you some sort of provenance behind many of our items, including this original watercolor painting for sale in our booth at Alley Cat Vintage Mercantile.

We found the painting in Santa Rosa in Northern California about 10 years ago. It was in an antique store downtown, on the floor, leaning against a row of shelves along the back wall. It was a little bit dusty, so I knew it had been sitting there a while. On the back, handwritten in pencil, is the date (1980s) and some other details including the name of the Santa Rosa park depicted in the painting. The price was reasonable, so we bought it. Since then, we’ve carried it from San Jose to Sacramento to Haslet, Southlake, Flower Mound and Fort Worth - and now Wichita Falls.

I still love it, but our home only has so much space to display art. I’d rather pass it on to someone who will love it like I do and give it a new home on a prominent wall for all to see and admire. Maybe that’s you?

Original framed watercolor painting, circa 1980s. $225 💫

✨Fabulous Finds Friday: Highlights from an Estate Sale MCM Windfall✨

We found these plastic dishes at the most amazing estate sale in Plano this summer. The house was absolutely packed with stuff from the 50s, 60s, 70s and on. We went on the last day of the sale (50% off everything!), and the house was still full.

Besides the merch age, even cooler was that a lot of it was from Germany and other European countries, where the family lived before coming to the states in the 70s.

They were American military, going back to World War I, when the grandfather (a naval officer) met the grandmother (a German citizen). They raised their kids in Germany and other posts like Hong Kong. I’m not sure of the exact timeline - perhaps early 70s - but their daughter and her family moved to the US and settled down. In the late 70s, the grandmother followed. She left Germany behind, but both she and her daughter’s family carried with them a ton of household goods and clothes made in Germany, Switzerland, Hong Kong.

So many items I’ve never seen before - and, if you can believe it, a Google search couldn’t find - like these plastic dishes. After much internet sleuthing, I learned that “Assurgrin,” embossed on the base of the red dish, is an artificial sweetener (saccharine/cyclamate) produced in Switzerland starting in 1965. It was the main table sweetener for West Germany, according to Wikipedia. Although the gold dish doesn’t have an imprint or any other markings, I’m sure it served the same purpose as its red partner.

So tiny (only about 4-5 inches tall), it’s a wonder they made it across the world - and through 60 years - in one piece and still in great condition. But I’m sure glad they did!

Add these unusual pieces of history to your MCM collection, along with lots of others. Shop our booth Halcyon at Alley Cat Vintage Mercantile in Wichita Falls.

We found this 1950s nautical TV lamp at an estate sale in Roanoke, Texas. It was on the bottom shelf of a small bookcase, tucked into the corner. It still works! I love it so much, but I can’t keep everything. Would you like to give it a home? Adopt it today at Westside Antique Marketplace in Fort Worth! Booth 3301.
