Up for sale is a unique piece of literary and art history: the complete set of original production illustrations by American artist Joe King for the 1926 fantasy classic The Adventures of Maidilie by Caroline Maclean.

Included in this set:

Original Artwork: 6 hand-drawn illustration sheets in pen-and-ink and en grisaille. Each is signed by Joe King and specifically addressed to Eugene Maclean, the book’s publisher.

Production Provenance: These sheets feature original margin notes and production instructions, documenting the exact layout process for the 1926 publication.

The Book: An original 1926 First Edition of The Adventures of Maidilie (Eugene Maclean, San Francisco). The book is in [Insert Condition: e.g., Good/Very Good] condition and features the final printed versions of these specific illustrations.

About the Artist:

These works represent the early "Golden Age" style of Joe King (Joseph B. King), whose long career spanned Esquire, the NEA, and Ladies Home Journal. These drawings show a rare, refined aesthetic influenced by Aubrey Beardsley.

I’ve just listed this beautiful vintage print of Maxfield Parrish’s "Daybreak" on eBay.
Originally painted in 1922, this piece is an absolute Art Deco icon and still looks stunning in its original period frame. It would make an incredible statement piece for any collector or lover of vintage art.
