Weird Machine Wednesday! And now for something completely different...
This is the restoration of my 1964 Hammond model C-3 electric organ. A lot of folks don't know that I have played the organ (the musical instrument) since my teens. This is one type of organ I've most wanted to personally own since I started. I acquired it in 2014 in heavily abused non-working condition and in need of an extensive restoration, and spent until 2017 restoring it from the ground up. This is an extremely abbreviated photo timeline of that painstaking process. This is one of, if not *the* most extensive projects I have ever undertaken. The restoration is the result of a dizzying number of steps, missteps, experimentation, and sleepless nights. Prior to sewing machine restoration, music, musical instruments, and the production/playback of music have been my life's biggest passions.
Hammond organs like this have been a studio and touring mainstay since their inception in the mid 1930s, and have been featured on many rock, pop, jazz, soul, gospel, and country recordings, in baseball stadiums, roller rinks, movies, radio, and television. Many of favorite recordings and performances were done on a Hammond organ similar to this one. Chances are, if you've heard an organ in a song or on television, you have heard this organ. As non classical organs go, this is the gold standard; the '59 Gibson Les Paul of organs.
Due to character limits, I will continue the description of the restoration in the comments of this post. If there is any interest, I can also post a detailed thread where I cataloged the entire process.
Enjoy this, feel free to ask any questions, and keep fixing and making things! πΉπΆπ΅πͺ‘π§΅β¨
