My relationships with the women in my life who I admire, who inspire me, are so special and important to me. I cherish them because their strength makes me strong, their compassion makes me more caring, their intellect challenges my way of thinking. I believe that if WOMEN pioneered the practice of treating each other as we seek to be treated by society—together, supporting each other, reaching out to one another for fellowship, advice and guidance, while also giving in return we could create a powerful bond that could not be so easily dismissed—as all of us have been in some point in our lives. If we freed ourselves of our competitive and comparative programming, and had each other’s backs while refusing to stand down in the face of patriarchal oppression, we could not so easily be ignored, discarded, abused, harassed, or continue to go unseen and unheard. Just some food for thought: embrace the women in your life, check in, offer up, reach out. Equality shouldn’t be negotiable. The fight for women’s rights isn’t over because we can vote now, or because we can express unwelcome opinions without being thrown in a asylum. The Equal Rights Amendment— which forbids any sort of discrimination on the basis of sex—became a well-known battle for ratification in the 1970s when countless women tirelessly organized and worked together to make equal rights official—but it was first proposed to Congress in 1927! Both times it was defeated, and though 2020 finally saw a step towards progress, its been 98 years since it was proposed and it’s still not been amended to the constitution. Do you think it should take 100 years to put woman into the constitution?
