Here's the podcast I did with Joe Meling from 23+ Leather. It's also on the other podcast platforms.
Once again I would like to thank Joe for inviting me on his podcast. I was pretty nervous, but it helps when the host is such an easy person to talk to.
Hope everyone enjoys their day!

Finally back in the shop today after spending the last few days at the Rocky Mountain Leather Trade Show down in Sheridan WY. Met some truly great folks and learned a bunch about the leather crafting trade. Even got to stop by the Barry King Tool shop and pick out some new stamping tools.

I would like to give a special thanks to Joe Meling with 23+ Leather. I met Joe last year while attending some of his workshops, and couldn't pass up another chance to learn more from him. Joe is without a doubt an expert in the world of leather carving and crafting, and one of the most genuine guys you could ever meet. He has a natural ability as an instructor to explain things in a clear and uncomplicated manner.
Joe even invited me on his podcast, "Pivot, Prosper, and Persevere." When that drops next week I will be sure to share it so anyone who wants can listen to our conversation.

Now, back to working on custom orders. Hope everyone is enjoying their spring!

Down here at the Rocky Mountain Leather Trade Show here in Sheridan, WY to spend the day with one of the greats in the business, and learn some new product builds.
These workshops are the type of activity I love to participate in, and will continue to do so for as long as I can. There's always someone with a little more knowledge, and thankfully they are sometimes willing and eager to pass it on.

Funny to think that just a few days ago we had a foot and a half of heavy, wet snow, and today's high is supposed to be up in the 80's. I'll definitely be mowing the lawn this evening.

Leather is such a great material to work with. These two belts were finished the exact same way. Neither one received a coating of Pro-Dye, just neatsfoot oil and Resolene to let them have a "natural" look. One dried as intended, and the other decided to darken significantly. Why? I have no idea. Every layer of liquid finishes is applied the same way for consistency, and yet this one turned out different.

Sometimes I don't know how these are gonna turn out until they're finished. But, that's what makes it fun. Hope everyone enjoys this beautiful day!

This particular belt is one of several that I was able to incorporate part of the original brand into. I typically try to purchase branded hides, especially when the brand is located in an ideal spot on the hide. If it's high enough on the shoulder or rib portion of the hide, then I can get a few lengths with a section of that brand.

Some folks may think different and see it as a blemish or eyesore. I tend to favor things that are a little odd or unique, and these branded belts definitely have a bit of character.

Got a new toy for the shop, a 4 ton clicker die press from Weaver Leather Supply. Now those larger scrap pieces will be put to good use, and I will gradually be able to expand my inventory. Belts are still the foundation for my business, but this will open up many more possibilities for the future.
Hope everyone has a great day!
