Jose Ismael Reza picked up a spray can at 10, saw the word primer, dropped the R and never stopped.

PRIME came up in the 80s writing his name across
Los Angeles with the K2S graffiti crew (Kill 2
Succeed), before graffiti and lettering started showing up in galleries.

He designed the cover of The Getty Research Institute’s LA Liber Amicorum, a manuscript of Los Angeles graffiti and tattoo work. His cursive LA is now on merch at the Getty Museum store.

Here he talks about childhood asthma & late night doodles, embracing calamity, lettering as home base, new paintings of his LA community, and paper collages that pull him somewhere unexpected.
