As we enter the holiday season, here is a reminder too.....

BYOB! No, I'm not talking about beer, I'm talking bags! BRING YOUR OWN BAG!
Did you know>>> Americans use about 100 billion plastic shopping bags a year!? While that number is 🤯 mind blowing on its own, that's just America. It's estimated that 500 billion to 1 TRILLION single use plastic bags are used every year world wide. 🌎 According to the Center for Marine Conversation, plastic bags are one of the MOST common items of trash found polluting our oceans.

So bring your own reusable bags while out shopping this season. Be mindful of the impact your consumption over the holidays has on our planet!

Came across this poem today and it spoke to me. Wanted to share❤️

"Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday...."
- Kahlil Gibran

This is my second year trying my hand at gardening and I'm definitely learning by trial and error. Last year I had a few vegetable plants in pots and containers. This year, my amazing dad built me 2 raised bed garden boxes. (Only one pictured because the other is looking sad, my dogs seem to think it's their own personal dirt pad🤦)

Some things I've learned this season:

🐝Marigolds are a great companion flower for vegetable gardens because they attract bees 🌼

🐝Zucchini plant leaves get HUGE! As you can see in the picture it has quickly over taken it's little corner of the garden.😬

🐝Last year my tomato plants got blight and with that learning experience my tomato's this year are looking fab. I've got about 40 cherry tomatoes already popping out. 🙌

🐝I learned about squash bugs and their egg laying habits on squash and zucchini leaves.

🐝Basil is another great companion herb for tomatos (they like friends).

I've harvested a couple peppers, and one big ol' zucchini (pictured). It was a Christmas morning feeling when I pulled back the leaf and saw it, I had no idea it was there! (hence why it's such a big boi).

To my gardening peeps....send me tips! I am learning as I go, so any feedback on how I have this set up, or could do it better next year, let me know! Can someone tell me how to tame the wild beast that is my zucchini plant? 😂

My favorite sale this week!

Set of 3 beautiful, vintage James Kent ceramic dishes.

For anyone interested in reselling, understand that not everything you buy is a quick sale. You can certainly make it your goal to only source things that flip quickly, but sometimes a slow burn will pay off too!

These were listed for a little over 3 months. I had about 15 "watchers" on eBay, and declined several decent offers because I knew I could get more.

And I did!

Sold: $43 + Shipping ! 🙌🏼

Shipped these little cuties out today!

Fun fact: Transfer printing onto mugs started during the industrial revolution in the mid 1700s, making it easier for workers to decorate multiple mugs quickly and efficiently.

I've dated these mugs to be somewhere around the 1950s-70s.

✨DiY Dandelion Oil.✨ Great for inflammation, joint pain and sore muscles.

I didn't have enough dandelions in my yard this year, but here are some pics from last year's batch!

DIY dandelion infused oil:
✨Forage for dandelions
*(Note: do NOT use dandelions that have been sprayed or are close to other yards that were sprayed with pesticides)

✨Dry those suckers out. You want ALL moisture to be out of your flowers before soaking them in oil so no mold grows. You can lay the out on a towel outside in the sun or on a window seal , I let mine dry out for 24 hours. They will shrink and shrivel up to about half their original size.

*Make sure any excess stem is cut off, we only need the flower for this recipe.

✨Place dried flowers in a jar, and then fill with your preferred carrier oil. (I choose grapeseed oil, but jojoba, olive oil, almond, and other carrier oils will work just fine.)

✨Secure with lid or a cloth with rubber band.

✨Place jar in a sunny window seal and let sit for up to 2 weeks.
(I also shake my jar every couple days)

✨After your 2 weeks, strain out all flowers using a cheese cloth.

✨Pour oil back into a clean jar. Add any essential oils if you'd like or leave it as is.

✨Keep an air tight lid on your jar, this should keep for about a year. But if you notice any strange smell before then, toss it, the shelf life is long but things can still go bad if not prepared properly.

Enjoy your oil! Let me know if you try this! 🌻

"Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I propagated a clipping from my monstera plant 8 months ago. She has doubled her leaves and is probably ready for a bigger pot. YOU GROW GIRL!💪🏼🌿 (Her little pothos buddy has grow quite a bit too, swipe to see the 'before' pic)

A gentle reminder to practice patience. It takes time to grow, don't be too hard on yourself if you haven't yet "arrived" to where you think you want to be. Life is about the journey.✨
