25th Anniversary September 11th Remembrance Ceremony

On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a tragedy that forever changed our country and the fire service.

Twenty-five years later, the Gilroy Fire Department and Gilroy Police Department will come together with our community to remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives, honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers and other first responders who answered the call, and reflect on the courage and unity demonstrated in the days that followed.

We invite the Gilroy community to join us for this solemn remembrance.

The ceremony will include the presentation of colors by our Honor Guards, the National Anthem, remarks from City and public safety leadership, an End of Watch radio call, the traditional tolling of the bell, a rifle volley and the playing of Taps.

For those of us in the fire service, September 11 holds a particularly enduring meaning. We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who went to work that morning and did not return home, as well as every first responder and civilian life lost that day.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their service, their sacrifice, and the families who carry their memory.

We hope you will join us on September 11.

Gavilan College is developing plans to launch men’s and women’s wrestling programs. Local wrestlers, coaches, families, alumni, and fans are invited to hear the plan, ask questions, and share their input at our Wrestling Town Hall.
