Update Libby Deluca 12/26
Well the MRI that was done 2 nights ago ended up being blurry as she didn’t hold still. So they knocked her out and did an angiogram today. Everything looked good so the team will discuss when to start the heparin regimen. Her team consists of an ICU doctor, ICU neurologist, neurologist, and a neurosurgeon. Plus all their PAs and APNs. Not to mention her Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech Therapist, Respiratory Therapist and Nurse Case Manager. It is a revolving door of providers.
Her spirits have been all over the place. She is unable to talk but for a dozen of so words. She gets frustrated not being able to communicate and thinks we are not listening. However, I think today after a long conversation with her she understands that what she thinks she is saying is not what is actually coming out of her mouth and that we are guessing for the most part on what she is wanting.
She got a half ass haircut today on the rest of the hair that wasn’t shaved. Kem just took some regular scissors and hacked it off. Libby had such matting on the back of her head where they had left a mullet it was hurting her. We kept trying to brush it before, but it was too much pain on her for us to keep it up.
She complains about headaches a lot, I would too if my skull would have cracked open, and we really try to keep her on her schedule with her pain meds as it is hard to get the pain back under control if we don’t.
All the kids came up yesterday afternoon to see her. Jameson understands and is stoic about it all. Loralye is very emotional and wants to try to make her feel better. She cries from worrying about her. Gwen isnt really understanding any of it and just knows Mom is in the hospital for a really bad headache.
For the most part Libby is understanding everything. She has been actually on her phone scrolling through social media and watching videos. She has problems unlocking and clicking on the right icon half the time, but it is a good start. She cannot respond but if anyone would like to text her you can. I am not sure how much she is able to read so put in a lot of emojis.
Again continue with the prayers and well wishes. This is going to be a long journey back to where she was.
