Sarah's Sewing

Sarah's Sewing Located in historic downtown Goldsboro, NC. Sewing Lessons & Custom Sewing; slipcovers, up-cycling, repairs, mending, unique projects & more. Hi! in Goldsboro.

Don't hesitate to reach out! βœ‚οΈ Welcome to Sarah's Sewing, I'm Sarah. I offer group sewing classes and private lessons and also offer custom sewing at my shop on Ash st. I have over 20 years of experience sewing and working in fabric shops and 5 years teaching sewing. My favorite things to sew are clothes for myself and designing useful things to use around the house. I'm a military brat who grew

up playing outside a lot, doing arts and crafts and playing sports. My first job was at The Cloth Barn and they are who inspired me to get into sewing. I loved all the possibilities that their many fabric options offered. (At the time Cloth Barn offered apparel fabric, but no longer does). There, I worked with many seasoned seamstresses who became my sewing mentors. Between them and my mom's instructions I was off to a good start in becoming a proud seamstress or sewist, as I like to call myself. I took a little break from the sewing world In 2012 when I got a wild hair to hike the Appalachian Trail in it's entirety. After spending 6 months in the woods I moved to Kinston where I worked at Mother Earth Brewery and ran an Etsy shop selling my bag designs that I sewed. Then I got another wild hair and moved to Portland Oregon where I got a job at a boutique fabric shop that sold independent sewing patterns and the dreamiest apparel and quilting fabric. I helped run the shop, doing a lot of behind the scenes stuff and taught classes there too. I loved it but missed my family here in Goldsboro and decided to move back in 2019. I opened up Sarah's Sewing in the fall of 2019 with intentions of solely teaching classes but covid totally disrupted all that and that's why I started offering custom sewing. I also, of course, made a ton of face masks. It's been a struggle over the last several years but things are looking up and I'm super excited to be at your service for your custom sewing needs and as a teacher to all you future sewists out there.

Check out this sweet little needlepoint pillow! πŸͺ‘

My customer did all the stitch work and then passed it to me to turn it into a pillow.

It has mitered corners and is boxed and corded out of velvet upholstery.

She said she ordered the kit from a needle point shop in Paris and asked that I stitch the wording that was on the edge of the needle point canvas as a reminder/keepsake. πŸ₯– πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

How cute is this elastic waist strawberry skirt that a young student and I made together! πŸ“

We designed it, cut it out and sewed it in 2 hours. All it is is just 3 rectangle shaped pieces! βœ‚οΈ 🧡

I happened to have some gingham ribbon to add at the seam for a little extra pizzaz.

I told her to get ready for lots compliments and to feel proud responding with a "Thanks, I made it"! πŸ˜ƒ

"In nature, nothing exists alone." - Rachel Carson

If you want to see the Native Flora and Fauna art show at The Arts Council this is your last week to check it out! 🌱

Here I am with my sweet friend at the opening reception. She purchased my Poke W**d piece! I'm still on cloud nine from that night. πŸ˜€

We had an artist talk on Saturday with all 6 of us participating artists and it turned into a straight up nature talk. I'm not surprised given the inspiration of the show.

Native plants should take priority if we want to help save the pollinators (which ensures pollination of our food crops). Removal of invasive species is key in supporting habitat for native plants.

Do a survey of your yard to identify what plants you have and make a plan. I use the app iNaturalist to identify plants on my phone. Picture This is another app, both are free to use.

Lets be better stewards and create ideal habitat for plants and critters alike! 🐸 🌼 🐝

My mom commissioned me to make a memory bear for her best friends' first grandchild. βœ‚οΈ

I was given several articles of clothing of hers and her late fathers. Included were two little tiny rompers that her dad wore when he was a tiny tot in the 1930's. They were so adorable I wish I had taken a pic! One of them had a bit of red star ribbon which I definitely needed to incorporate. You can see it on his left paw.

My mom and I both agree, he looks very Americana!

Also, this Simplicity sewing pattern makes an extra chunky bear like one that's getting ready to hibernate. It's fitting because her grandchild is due in the fall. 🐻
