Title: Help! I’m Ruining my Kids
Author: Abbey Wedgeworth
My Rating: I Loved It!
If the title of this book doesn’t make you curious about what’s inside, then I can’t relate to you. 😂
Abbey is one of my favorite follows in Instagram. She’s funny and relatable and just seems like a real person. Initially I didn’t plan to read this book because I assumed it was geared towards moms with younger children. But as I read more and more reviews of it, I realized that it might apply to me too.
And it did! I felt like this wasn’t just another parenting book because she came at it from a different angle. It was a good mix of biblical truth, personal stories, and practical application. She talks a lot about how mental health impacts motherhood. I haven’t read a book that handles that topic well, but as a mom who struggles with anxiety and PTSD, I felt very seen, encouraged, and challenged.
Because she addressed mental health, I think it’s important to read with discernment. There is so much secular thought on the topic and some of her quotes and info comes from secular sources. I didn’t think she crossed any lines away from biblical thinking, but there were some words and phrases she used that probably could have been defined more clearly or worded differently.
Overall, I loved the book! I have been having the hardest time focusing on non-fiction lately, but this one drew me in, kept my attention, encouraged, and challenged me. I definitely recommend it!
