Last year I finished 18 of 20 pages of ‘s challenge and completed with 100 days of slow stitched flowers. I loved having a creative daily practice and wanted to try again this year, but tbh 2026 has so far been a bit of a bumpy ride.

After I missed the start of the , I decided to try a similar idea for . My plan was to work on a “stitch journal”. I thought calling it a stitch journal would help me treat it as an art journal, freeing me to move around from page to page and not get hung up on finished pieces. I lasted for ten days and then the scary blank pages broke me. 😂

One wakeful night in March I listened to a sleep story called “The Temperature Blanket” by and instead of putting me to sleep, it inspired me to give a daily practice one more try. I spent the morning shopping around for ideas that were low stakes – fast or small or with few decisions required – this year I need the easiest possible entry point.

I found .j.turner ‘s daily stitching project – one piece of fabric with a grid of ~1½” squares that she stitches in one day at time. 1½” squares? Sold. I found a piece of linen in my stash, drew a grid for the 297 days remaining in the year and started that day. And now I’m 52 days in and the tiny squares turn out to be the perfect size canvas for my timid brain and stitching a little record of my days is just what my soul needed.

It’s so hard to break open a fat quarter bundle! I’ll miss looking at the gorgeous bundle of Lucky Loom by that’s been gracing the corner of my cutting table since Christmas, but I’ve got a plan and it’s time. 🤞
