Tomahawk Fall Ride is almost here, and Mayday’s is getting geared up! 🏍️🔥

We’ve been busy at Mass Appeal creating custom apparel for Mayday’s in Tomahawk ahead of one of the biggest weekends of the year in the Northwoods.

The 45th Annual Tomahawk Fall Ride rolls into town September 17–20, bringing thousands of riders and visitors together for motorcycles, live music, food, drinks, and a whole lot of fun.

Nobody wants a giant rubber patch sitting on their shirt.

When you have a large design with a lot of solid ink coverage, sometimes the answer is to break up the artwork and let more of the garment show through the design.

That can reduce that heavy, thick feeling on the shirt while still allowing you to create a big, bold graphic. The result is a print that looks great, feels better, and is much more comfortable to wear.

Good apparel design isn’t just about how something looks on a computer screen. You have to think about how it’s actually going to feel when someone wears it.

Sometimes a little less ink makes for a much better shirt.

The job isn’t finished just because the ink is on the shirt.

One of the simple quality checks we use with screen printing is the stretch test. After the print has been properly cured, stretching the printed area can help us check whether the ink has cured correctly and is bonding the way it should.

If the print immediately starts cracking or separating when stretched, that can be a sign something in the process needs another look.

It’s a quick test, but it’s another example of why the details matter. Print it. Cure it. Test it. Then send it out the door.

If your screen print is cracking, something isn’t right.

A quality screen print should be built to last. When cracking starts happening early, there’s usually a problem somewhere with the product, ink, curing temperature, or printing process.

The right ink matters. The garment needs to reach the proper temperature. The print needs to be cured correctly. And your equipment needs to consistently deliver the heat you think it is.

That’s why at Mass Appeal we test new garments before running full orders and regularly check our heating equipment. A small mistake in temperature or curing can become a big problem after a few washes.

Great screen printing isn’t just about putting ink on a shirt. The process behind the print is what makes it last.

Should your logo be BIG or keep it small?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. It depends on what the apparel is for and how you want people to wear it.

A large logo can make a statement and give your brand maximum visibility great for events, crews, uniforms, and promotional apparel.

A smaller logo can create a cleaner, more subtle look that often feels more like everyday apparel something employees and customers may be more likely to wear outside of work.

Sometimes the best answer is small branding on the front and something bigger on the back.

“Can you match the exact color in my logo?”

Yes we can.

If your brand has specific colors that need to stay consistent across your apparel, just provide us with the PMS (Pantone) number or HEX number for your logo colors and we can match them.

Because your red shouldn’t suddenly become a different red just because it’s on a T-shirt.

Brand consistency matters, especially when your logo is going on employee apparel, merchandise, uniforms, or promotional gear.

What’s really the difference between a $5 T-shirt and a $20 T-shirt?

It’s not always as simple as one being “good” and the other being “bad.”

Fabric weight, softness, fit, material, construction, brand, durability, and how the shirt feels after multiple washes can all affect the price.

A $5 shirt might be perfect for a large event, giveaway, fundraiser, or budget-friendly employee shirt. A $20 premium blank might make more sense when you’re creating merchandise people will pay more for and want to wear regularly.

The key is understanding what you’re using the shirt for before deciding what you should spend.

How long will DTF or screen printing actually last?

The answer depends on more than just the printing method. The quality of the ink or transfer, proper temperatures, pressure, curing, application, and even how the garment is cared for can all impact how long a print holds up.

When both are done correctly, DTF and screen printing can produce great, durable results. But if you ask Matt which one he trusts for the longest-lasting print, he’s still choosing screen printing.

A properly screen-printed design can hold up wash after wash and, in many cases, last as long as the shirt itself.

That doesn’t make DTF a bad option it’s an excellent choice for detailed artwork, multiple colors, and smaller runs. It’s about choosing the right process for the job and, more importantly, making sure that process is done correctly.

Sometimes the best printing solution isn’t choosing between screen printing and DTF it’s using both.

When Old Smashin’s Bar in Suring wanted a limited run of custom shirts, they had a clean logo for the front but wanted a much more detailed image across the back.

So we matched the printing method to each part of the design.

We screen printed the chest logo for that clean, durable finish and used DTF for the detailed artwork on the back, allowing us to reproduce all that detail without making a limited run overly complicated or expensive.
