Handsome, highly detailed original engraved 1777 map of northwestern South America, from Panama to Peru.

The image area measures 41 x 23.5 cm [16¼" x 9¼"], and the map was engraved by Sydney Hall.

It was published in the Reverend William Robertson's "History of America," William Strahan & Thomas Cadell, London, 1777.

Topography is drawn in relief, and details include tribal names, towns, villages, and natural features in parts of present-day Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela.

Among the places and features are Cartagena, Quito, Gulf of Darien, Barbacoas, Amazon River, Esmeraldas, Lake Maracaibo, Malaga, Merida, Cuenca, Gulf of Guayaquil, San Joaquín de Omaguas, Popayán, the lands of the Cundayes along the Meta River east of the Andes, Piura, Santa Fe de Bogotá, and the Great Falls on the Japurá River.

There is a decorative swash title: "Map of the Kingdom of New Granada, and the Countries adjacent from Panama to Guayaquil. For the Revd. Dr. Robertson's 'History of America.'"

Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with a bold, crisp impression and no marks, rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.

Original 1841 engraved antique map of the island of Guadeloupe and its dependencies in the French Caribbean,

The image area measures 18.6 x 24 cm [7¼" x 9½"], and the map is titled "La Guadeloupe et ses Dépendances."

The map was published in "Petit Atlas National des Départements de la France et de ses Colonies," Paris, 1841, with cartography by Charles V. Monin.

The map depicts the main island of Guadeloupe (divided into Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre), along with dependencies Marie-Galante, La Désirade, and the Îles des Saintes, with topography drawn in relief.

Handsome original antique color lithographed 1902 double-hemisphere physical map of the World, with decorative piano-key border, printed more than 120 years ago.

The image area measures 26.7 x 38 cm 10½" x 15", and the map was engraved by the Matthews-Northrup Company.

It shows elevations and water depths, with four insets giving heights of specific mountains.

There is a large inset depicting the region around the South Pole, with notes on points reached by various explorers. The closest approach to the pole at the time this map was printed was that made by Sir James Clark Ross in February 1842.

Among the other named places and features on the map are the Himalaya Mountains, Tuscarora Deep, Labrador Basin, Antarctic Ocean, Kilimanjaro, Tropic of Capricorn, Gulf of Guinea, Arctic Circle, Galapagos Islands, Mediterranean Sea, Nares Deep, Balkan Peninsua, Brazilian Basin, Polynesia, Western Azores Trench, Arabian Sea, and the Rocky Mountains.

Fold-out road map of what is described as "the shortest, most scenic, all-weather, all-paved route between Los Angeles and Kansas City," published by the Navajo Trail Association, Durango, Colorado, more than 62 years ago.

It opens to 9" x 16" and is printed on two sides, with descriptve text on attractions along the route, including National Monuments and Indian Reservations.

Condition: It is in very good, lightly used condition, bright and clean, with no rips or tears. A prevous owner has written his name near the upper edge on one side, and there's a small spot in the lower corner on the back cover. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.

The map was published in 1964, shortly after construction was started on Purgatory Ski Resort in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado. The resort is shown as "scheduled to begin operations in 1965."

Vintage colorful fold-out pictorial road map of Southern California, published by the All-Year Club in 1957.

The cover photo shows a man and woman on a balcony above a beach where a pair of surfers are standing next to a classic Tom Blake-designed mid-century longboard.

The map opens to 28" x 23, and the coverage area extends from Mono Lake to the border with Mexico.

There are dozens of charming pictorial illustrations including a prospector, cowboy, fisherman, sailboat, oil tower, desert tortoise, sunbather, landscape painter, Indian girl, and more surfers.

The map is copyrighted © 1957 by the All-Year Club of Southern California.

On the other side there is a road map of Los Angeles County, with good detail on old street and highway alignments, including U.S. Route 66.

The Pasadena Parkway and the Santa Ana, San Bernardino, Riverside, Harbor, and San Diego, and Long Beach Freeways are all shown as under construction or proposed.

Along with the map there's a directory with the street addresses of radio, TV, and movie stars living in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Westwood, and Los Angeles, linked to an inset titled "Glamourland."

The cover title is "Official All-Year Club Sight-Seeing Map Southern California."

Condition: The map is in very good, lightly used condition, overall bright and clean, with pinhole breaks on two folds and no marks or writing.

The All-Year Club of Southern California had been formed to promote the area as a desirable tourist destination in the summer months as well as the winter. The All-Year Club morphed into the Greater Los Angeles Visitors and Convention Bureau in 1968 and, later, merged with the Southern California Visitors Council.

Handsome large-format fold-out color lithographed map of Europe and the Near East at the beginning of the Second World War, printed more than 85 years ago.

This map opens to a generous 86.3 x 99 cm [34" x 39"] and has wonderful detail throughout, on a scale of 1:6,000,000, or 94.7 miles to one inch.

Topography is delineated by color shading, and details include railroads, canals, tunnels, passes, oil pipe lines, cities, towns, and more.

The coverage area exends from Iceland to the Persian Gulf, and there is an inset plan of the Middle East.

Political boundaries are drawn as they existed at the time, with Austria shown as part of Germany and Poland divided between the Soviet Union and Hitler's Germany.

In the Near East, the map labels Latakia, Lebanon, Palestine, Gaza, Jerusalem, Damascus, Trans-Jordan, and the Levant States (French Mandate).

This map was publshed by the National Geographic Society as a supplement to its May 1940 magazine, eight months after Germany invaded Poland.
