Swede Stitch

Swede Stitch I am Elisabeth and I am from Sweden. This is where I grew up and where I learned to sew. I graduated in May 2014 and started to design and make wedding gowns.

I first learned to sew from my mother provided me scrap fabric that transformed in to dresses for my barbie dolls and teddy bears. In school I made my own prom dresses and later on I started making prom dresses for friends and friends of friends. In August 2012 I got accepted to a design school in Sweden, Sätergläntan- Institute for Sloyd and Cratsmanship . The sewing and design at this school is

divided in to two parts, traditional sewing and modern sewing. In traditional sewing we studied traditional folklore attire, what tecniques were used, how the clothes were designed and how to use these techniques and designs sewing by hand ourselves. In modern sewing we were using sewing machines, learnd to construct patterns and how to find our own personal design voice. In October 2014 I moved to Raleigh North Carolina, got married and started up my own business. My passion is researching traditional elements and symbolism in garments from across the world and create clothes for people who seek a unique touch to their attire. Moving from one part of the world to another, I find ways to respectfully merge cultures and their symbolism in clothing.
